Privacy policy
Last updated 7 November 2026. This policy covers the One Thing app for Android (package app.onething) and this website. One Thing is made by TODO-DEVELOPER-NAME.
One Thing does not collect your data. Your notes stay on your phone, and the developer cannot see them.
What the app does not do
- It has no account and no sign-in.
- It has no analytics, no ads and no crash reporting.
- It has no server. Public builds do not have the Android INTERNET permission, so Android blocks the app from using the network.
What stays on your phone
The app keeps these things in its own private storage on your phone:
- Your notes, your archive and your Done list, with the time of each Done
- Your focus sessions, profiles, rest days and settings
- A copy of the wallpaper photo, if you pick one
- Whether you own Pro
This data is not sent to the developer or to anyone else. Android cloud backup is off for this app, so it does not go to your Google account either.
Google Play and Pro
Pro is a one-time purchase through Google Play Billing. The app talks to the Play app on your phone to show the price, to make the purchase, and to check if you own Pro. It stores that answer so that Pro works offline.
Google handles the payment. One Thing never sees your card details. Google Play has its own privacy policy.
Google Play gives app developers general reports, such as install counts, crash counts and order records. These come from Google, not from the app, and they never include your notes.
Android permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Shows the pinned note, the focus session and the morning and evening check-in. |
| Promoted notifications | Shows a running focus session in the status bar, on Android versions that have this. |
| Run at startup | Puts the note and the alarms back after a restart. |
| Google Play billing | Lets you buy Pro. |
| View network state | Added by a library the app uses. It can only tell if the phone is online. It cannot connect to anything. |
| Wake lock and foreground service | Added by libraries the app uses, for short background work on the phone. |
Android also adds one internal permission that protects the app's own messages. The app does not ask for your location, contacts, camera, microphone or storage.
When your words leave the app
This happens only when you choose it, or as Android shows them:
- Your lock screen. Anyone who sees your phone can read your note. The widget and the notification show it too. You can turn these off.
- Share and Copy. The text or card goes to the app you pick, or to your clipboard.
- Backups. Export saves your data to a file that you choose, through the Android file screen. The file is plain text and it is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere safe.
- Photos. The Android photo screen gives the app only the photo you pick.
- Text from other apps. If you share text to One Thing, it is stored like any other note.
Deleting your data
You can delete a note or a Done item in the app. To delete everything, uninstall the app. Backup files that you saved stay where you put them, so delete those yourself.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, and that includes children.
